What is trauma?
Trauma is a response to experiences that overwhelm our ability to cope. It can affect how the nervous system reacts, sometimes leaving the body in a highβalert state.
Common reactions
- Feeling on edge, numb, or flooded by memories.
- Triggers that shrink your window of tolerance.
- Sleep changes, startle response, or avoidance.
Stabilisation ideas
- Grounding: feet on floor, name 5 things you see; cool water on wrists.
- Create safe signals: soft lighting, weighted blanket, calming scent.
- Boundaries: limit exposure to distressing content; curate your feeds.
- Support: reach out to trusted people or peer spaces when ready.
