How ADS-B works
Every commercial aircraft broadcasts its own position roughly once a second. ADS-B (Automatic Dependent Surveillance–Broadcast) transmits GPS position, altitude, speed and heading on 1090 MHz. AwareStation's SKYTRACK dongle listens constantly and plots every aircraft within range live on the map above.

1090 MHz

The fixed frequency every commercial aircraft transmits position data on, regardless of airline or country.

📍

Real GPS data

The position shown is the aircraft's own onboard GPS, broadcast openly — not estimated or radar-derived.

📡

SKYTRACK dongle

Dedicated ADS-B receiver on a V-pole antenna, running 24/7 on its own device to never conflict with satellite or wideband scanning.

Open by design

ADS-B is unencrypted and freely receivable by design — that's exactly what AwareSignal is tuned into.
