The Story of Different Minds  ·  Before the Labels

Labels vs People

Why people existed before categories, and why categories must never replace the person.

The label is newer than the human.

Simple version

Modern words can help people find support, but they can also make people feel reduced. This topic explains the difference between using labels as tools and treating labels as the whole person.

Why it matters

A diagnosis can open doors, explain patterns and help people ask for adjustments. But history shows the danger when a category becomes a judgement. The person existed before the word, and the person remains bigger than the word.

Awareverse lens

Awareverse uses labels where they help, but never as a substitute for listening. The aim is not to collect categories. The aim is to see the human underneath them.

Question to ask

When looking at labels vs people, ask: who had power, who was being labelled, and what would have changed if the human being had been seen first?
