The Story of Different Minds  ·  Before the Labels

Context Decides Meaning

How the same traits could be treated as gifted, dangerous, sacred or shameful depending on society.

Difference often depends on who is watching.

Simple version

Before modern diagnosis, unusual communication, intense focus, sensory sensitivity, movement differences or distress were interpreted through culture. The same person might be protected in one setting and punished in another.

Why it matters

This matters because neurodivergence is never experienced in a vacuum. Environment decides whether a trait becomes a strength, a difficulty, a risk or a reason for exclusion.

Awareverse lens

Awareverse focuses on context. The question is not only what traits does this person have. It is what is this environment doing to them.

Question to ask

When looking at context decides meaning, ask: who had power, who was being labelled, and what would have changed if the human being had been seen first?
