Disabled, neurodivergent and mentally distressed people were treated as threats to society.
The darkest idea was that some people should not exist.
Eugenics was the belief that society should control reproduction to improve the population. Disabled people, neurodivergent people, mentally ill people, poor people, racialised groups and others were often targeted.
It was presented as science, progress and public good. It was none of those things. It was dehumanisation with official language.
Eugenics shaped laws, institutions, sterilisation policies, immigration restrictions and medical thinking across multiple countries.
It teaches a brutal lesson: professional language can be used to make cruelty sound rational.
The opposite of eugenics is not politeness. It is a firm refusal to measure human worth by productivity, conformity, intelligence scores, diagnosis or cost.
See the human. Change everything.
