How early medical systems tried to explain behaviour, distress and difference.
The first explanations were attempts to make the strange understandable.
Ancient medicine often used ideas of balance, humours, energy, spirit or bodily systems to explain unusual behaviour. These were early attempts to create order from human complexity.
Some explanations were compassionate, and some were harmful. The lesson is that explanation alone is not enough. A theory can be detailed and still hurt people if it removes dignity.
Awareverse is careful with explanations. The question is always whether the explanation helps the person live better.
When looking at ancient medical models, ask: who had power, who was being labelled, and what would have changed if the human being had been seen first?
